The CLAT-UG English Language section evaluates your core reading comprehension, linguistic ability, and analytical vocabulary. Far from a traditional grammar test, this section focuses heavily on contextual understanding, making it a critical component of the Common Law Admission Test for aspiring law students.

The section contributes roughly 20% of the total exam marks, featuring a series of 450-word reading passages drawn from contemporary fiction, historical essays, and non-fiction journals. Each passage is followed by a series of objective questions designed to test your ability to infer main points, analyze arguments, and deduce the meaning of unfamiliar phrases in context.
